Arsenal centre-back William Saliba (25) could undergo surgery after the World Cup, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Saliba has been dealing with a back problem for several weeks. Although the issue did not stop him from playing the entire 120 minutes of the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, the pain has reportedly intensified since then, as per L’Équipe.
Foot Mercato reported on Monday that there was a possibility of the defender being sidelined for several weeks, potentially endangering his place in France’s World Cup squad. While Saliba’s close circle expressed serious concern, the French national team’s medical staff were somewhat reassured. Tests conducted on Monday produced positive results.
L’Équipe further noted that Arsenal were already aware they might not be able to rely on the defender following the World Cup, with surgery likely to take place at the end of the summer. Although Saliba now looks set to feature for Les Bleus in the FIFA World Cup, there are growing doubts over his availability at the start of the Premier League season.
