Deputy Mayor of Palangka Raya, Achmad Zaini, expressed his excitement about the upcoming 2026 World Cup, eagerly anticipating the performances of global superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
According to Zaini, this grand football event is one of the most anticipated spectacles, allowing fans to witness top-level matches featuring the world’s finest players.
“We should be happy. This year, God willing, we’ll once again be able to follow the World Cup matches. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to watch and enjoy. I myself am a football fan,” said Zaini after attending the Pancasila Day ceremony at the Palangka Raya Mayor’s Office on Monday (1 June 2026).
He hopes that the excitement of the 2026 World Cup will also reach the people of Palangka Raya.
One of his ideas is to organise public viewing sessions or “nobar” (watch parties), bringing local communities together to enjoy the matches.
“Hopefully we can watch together. We’ll try to have some watch party events in our city. I’ll discuss this further with the Mayor of Palangka Raya,” he added.
Regarding his favourite players, Zaini admitted that he still admires legendary footballers who have long been icons of the sport.
Names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi remain etched in his mind when talking about international football.
“Yes, my favourite players are still the senior ones, like Messi and Ronaldo,” he said with a smile.
Nevertheless, Zaini hopes the 2026 World Cup will not only highlight established stars but also give rise to new talents capable of shining on the world stage.
He believes one of the most exciting aspects of the World Cup is discovering young players who impress and later become global football stars.
“The hope is that new world-class players will emerge during this World Cup, as often happens in these tournaments,” he remarked.
He further emphasised the importance of player regeneration so that global football continues to offer entertaining spectacles for fans worldwide.
According to Zaini, it is time for the new generation to show their skills and succeed the senior players of international football.
