New Delhi: Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai on Tuesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi amid intense speculation surrounding his future in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The meeting comes at a time when political discussions around Annamalai’s next move have gained momentum following reports that he may launch a separate political outfit in Tamil Nadu. Apart from Shah, Annamalai also met BJP national president Nitin Nabin and senior BJP leader BL Santhosh.

Speculation Over New Political Party
On Monday, Annamalai had responded cautiously when asked about rumors regarding his political future. “Please wait. We will sit down and talk in two days,” he said, further fueling speculation about possible changes in his political plans.
Posters carrying slogans such as “Our Leader, Come and Lead Us” have appeared across parts of Coimbatore ahead of Annamalai’s birthday on June 4. The posters have intensified discussions over whether the former IPS officer could chart an independent political course in the state.
Political Shift in Tamil Nadu
The developments come in the backdrop of major political changes in Tamil Nadu following the 2026 Assembly elections. The victory of C.Joseph Vijay-led TVK marked a major shift in the state’s political landscape, ending the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.

BJP Watching Tamil Nadu Closely
Annamalai, who led the BJP’s Tamil Nadu unit from 2021 to 2025, emerged as one of the party’s most visible faces in the state through aggressive outreach campaigns and social media engagement. His meetings with the BJP leadership in Delhi are being closely watched amid evolving political equations in Tamil Nadu.
