Even though there is still about eight months left for the assembly elections to be held in Uttar Pradesh in the year 2027, the political activity in the state has already reached its peak. The main opposition party of the state, Samajwadi Party (SP) has used all its strength to reach the throne of power. Akhilesh Yadav, proud of the results of the last Lok Sabha elections, seems to be in a very aggressive mood this time. Meanwhile, a big news is coming out from the political corridors of Lucknow. If sources are to be believed, the round of internal meetings has intensified regarding finalizing the alliance between SP and Congress for the upcoming assembly elections and seat sharing for ‘UP Assembly Elections 2027’.

It is being told that SP President Akhilesh Yadav does not want to take any risk this time on the lines of Lok Sabha elections 2024. This is the reason why they themselves are busy in dividing each seat on the basis of ground survey and accurate caste equations. In fact, the entire focus of the Samajwadi Party is that the ticket should be given only to the winning candidate.

Congress’s demand is 120, but talks can be done on 80 seats.

The wonders that the alliance of SP and Congress had done in Uttar Pradesh in the last Lok Sabha elections, both the parties want to repeat in 2027 also. This is the reason why both the parties have prepared to enter the election field together. Now the biggest question is how will the total 403 assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh be distributed? According to the news coming out quoting sources, the Congress party can stake its claim on about 120 seats in the initial round of talks.

However, considering the ground reality and the organizational strength of both the parties, political pundits believe that the final agreement will be reached around 80 seats. Actually, Akhilesh Yadav has adopted a very practical stance in this matter. He has clearly sought feedback from his MPs, MLAs and district presidents as to what is the ground hold of Congress in their areas. The SP chief wants to know which are those seats where Congress is really strong and can lead the alliance to victory.

Equations of 2022 changed, Akhilesh-Rahul depend on India Alliance

If we look at the history of previous elections, the political picture of UP was quite different in the 2022 assembly elections. At that time, Samajwadi Party had contested the elections in alliance with Om Prakash Rajbhar’s SubhaSP (Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party) and then the SP alliance had got 111 seats. But today’s situation has completely changed. Subha SP has now changed sides and become a part of the ruling camp, while SP is now standing shoulder to shoulder with Congress under the ‘India Alliance’.

The trailer of this new equation has been seen in the last Lok Sabha elections, where SP alone won 37 seats and Congress won 6 seats. On the strength of this bumper success, both the parties are now planning to win the ‘UP Assembly Elections 2027’.

Grassroots leaders fear ticket cuts, high command assured

Even though the top leadership of Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi is completely confident about this alliance and is comfortable with each other, the story is a little different at the ground level. According to sources, some restlessness and uneasiness is definitely being seen among the local leaders and the potential candidates who are waiting for the ticket. The leaders are afraid that if their traditional seat goes into the account of the ally party due to the alliance, then years of hard work will go in vain.

Despite all this, the SP high command has made it clear that their only aim is to win the elections. The party is strengthening its organizational preparations on every assembly seat so that the flag of victory can be hoisted in whatever seat it gets under the alliance. Now it will be interesting to see on which side this camel of seat sharing sits.
