Fire Accidents By AC Or Cylinder: The death of Dhanendra Kumar, the first chairman of Competition Commission of India (CCI) in a house fire in Delhi, has once again brought before everyone the seriousness of domestic fire accidents. However, in the initial investigation it is suspected that the cause of the fire could be a technical fault in the air conditioner. But the final report is yet to come but before that this incident has started a new debate regarding the increasing fire accidents across the country. As everyone knows that accidents to ACs, electrical appliances and gas cylinders increase during the summer season, but now the figures show that this problem is not just personal carelessness but has become a big safety issue.
More than 3.43 lakh fire accidents in 19 years
National safety data showed that between 2005 and 2024, 3,43,206 cases of fire were recorded in India. Out of which an average of 16,393 people lose their lives every year in many accidents. Regarding which experts say that the biggest role in domestic fire incidents has been seen to be due to gas cylinder leakage, short circuit and faulty electronic equipment. It has also been observed that in many cases the initial spark is small but due to failure to stop the accident in time, it becomes big.

7 big cases of AC blast in 2026
If we look at the figures of this year 2026, till now 7 major fire accidents to air conditioner blast have been reported across the country. The reason for which is continuous use of AC for a long time in scorching heat. Due to which problems like overloading, wiring fault and compressor failure occur in AC. However, safety experts believe that AC is not the cause of every fire. In many cases in the houses of the country, cylinder blast, bad wiring or other electrical faults are also responsible.
Fire incidents have increased the most in these states
In recent times, it has been seen that there has been a significant increase in fire incidents in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha. This figure raises concern especially after looking at the data of fire incidents in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh till 2024. Rapid urbanization, old electricity network and increasing use of home appliances are also believed to be one of the reasons.

After seeing such cases, experts advise everyone that regular servicing of AC, prevention of overloading, good quality wiring and periodic checking of gas cylinder can reduce them. In such a situation, it is not wrong to take the help of technology in the increasing heat, but it is important to take full care of the safety of the family.
