White the internet is flooded with "travel warnings", there is an American travel creator who has fallen in love with the beauty of Bihar and is busting all myths around the state. Tony Klor (@tonykmontana) is a young traveller from America’s Stockton in California. He is attracting all attention on his videos from Bihar. Recently, the man posted a video from his journey into Darbhanga, Bihar. Surprisingly, it wasn’t about broken bridges or unfair play but it was a vibrant, love letter to Bihar’s culture, its people, and its rich culinary world.
The caption of the video reads:
“They told me not to come to Bihar. Now I don’t wanna leave. Dharbanga has been absolute kindness, culture, history, and hella hospitality.”
Let’s find out more about his experience of Bihar:
Darbhanga’s beauty
Bihar is a region too often burdened by unfair stereotypes from outsiders. In the first sentence, the creator acknowledges that many people had told him to skip Bihar entirely, but he did not pay any heed. Instead, he packed his bags and headed straight to Darbhanga, which is the historic heart of the Mithila region.
From the very first frame, the man is smiling and is right there on the ground, walking through local markets, exploring the gorgeous geometric brilliance of the Shyama Mai Temple, and running his hands over centuries-old artifacts at the Chandradhari Museum.
He clearly looks mesmerised as his eyes are wide with the kind of pure awe that only hits you when you realize you've stumbled upon a hidden treasure! But what makes the video deeply touching is how the locals react to him. It’s a friendly interaction, pure and beautiful.
Places to visit in Darbhanga
Darbhanga's identity is its royal past. The Raj Darbhanga was among the wealthiest zamindaris in India. The rulers of Darbhanga built palaces, gateways, and temples which define the city's skyline.
Darbhanga Raj Fort: The fort is an architectural wonder that catches you off guard. There are massive old gates which stand as silent witnesses to a bygone era. The time when it was a thriving city defined by classical music, education, and fine arts.
Shyama Mai Temple: Just outside the palace grounds is the Shayam Mai temple which was built in 1933. It is a striking temple with multi-tiered red spires. Locals gather in its courtyard, their voices murmuring in Maithili, creating a welcoming vibe.
Chandradhari Museum: Chandradhari Museum was founded in 1957 through the massive private collection of Zamindar Chandradhari Singh. It is among India’s most compelling historical repositories.
The food of Darbhanga
Instead of being guarded, Darbhanga people meet his smile with pride, curiosity and love to show him the best side of their city. After all, it is an international guest inside their home. A massive highlight of the creator's trip is his experience of local cuisine.
The video captures him diving headfirst into dishes that are staples of the Bihari household. Watching an American sitting happily on a plastic stool by a roadside stall, savoring every bite of authentic Bihari food, sends a powerful message. The reel has quickly become a space for celebration online.
So if anyone asks you, "Are you sure you want to go there?", just show them his videos.
