Manchester United will see several of their current stars representing top national teams at the upcoming World Cup.
Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford have been called up for England, while Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot are set to feature prominently for Portugal.
Brazil have included Casemiro and Matheus Cunha in their squad, and Lisandro Martinez will play for Argentina.
Other names linked to United, including Manuel Ugarte, Senne Lammens, Amad, and Noussair Mazraoui, will also line up for their respective national teams during the tournament.
Some former United players will also be making an appearance on the world stage, among them former academy graduate Zidane Iqbal.
Iqbal joined United’s academy at the age of nine, coming through the ranks at Carrington, and signed his first professional contract in 2021. He made his senior debut later that year in the Champions League.
As noted at the time, he became the first British-born South Asian and the first Iraqi to play for Manchester United, as well as the first British South Asian ever to appear in the Champions League.
In June 2023, Iqbal departed Old Trafford to join Dutch club Utrecht.
Since making his international debut in 2022, Iqbal has earned 20 caps for Iraq and scored two goals.
According to TalkSPORT, the former Manchester United youngster has now been named in Iraq’s World Cup squad.
Despite being 23 years old, Iqbal has made just seven senior appearances for Utrecht, spending most of his time with the club’s youth side.
The same report confirms that Iraq have been drawn into Group I and will face Norway in Boston, France in Philadelphia, and Senegal in Toronto.
