In a resurfaced video from 2019, former Liverpool forward Sadio Mane shared that his mother and uncle had once encouraged him to marry a 14-year-old girl.

The Senegalese international, now aged 31, has recently married his 19-year-old partner Aisha Tamba in a ceremony held in their homeland. Reports indicate that the wedding took place on January 7 in Keur Massar. It is believed that Aisha had been intended to marry Mane since her teenage years, and it has also been reported that the footballer supported her financially during her school days.

In the 2019 interview with Orange Senegal, Mane reflected on the pressure from his family members, explaining, “No, in fact, I wanted to get married but you know that marriage is a bit complicated. I would have liked to get married, but you know that with parents also, that’s another thing, they are complicated. I remember one day, my mum and my uncle wanted me to marry [as it is done in the villages] a 14-year-old girl. [Calling to someone off camera] Idy, it was 14 right? I believe that she will be 15 this year but I had refused. But no worries, if I find my soul mate, I will get married straight away.”

Photos from Mane’s recent wedding show the couple smiling while holding hands in front of a floral display that read “Mrs Mane”. Aisha, the daughter of an architect, appeared radiant alongside the Al-Nassr star.

Currently, Mane is preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in the Ivory Coast. He continues to play club football with Saudi Pro League team Al-Nassr, where he shares the pitch with five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
