Borussia Dortmund have firmly addressed the growing speculation over Serhou Guirassy’s future, with managing director Lars Ricken dismissing any talk of the striker’s imminent departure. Despite mounting interest from Turkey, the Bundesliga powerhouse is intent on retaining their prolific forward as preparations for the upcoming season continue.
Ricken refutes Fenerbahce transfer speculation
Dortmund’s managing director Lars Ricken has quickly moved to quash reports linking Serhou Guirassy with a potential switch to Fenerbahce. The Turkish club has been increasingly vocal about their ambition to sign the striker, but the hierarchy at Signal Iduna Park remains unmoved by the public pursuit.
In an interview with WAZ, Ricken clarified the club’s position, saying: “We have received no offer for Serhou. We also have no intention of letting him leave. He has convincingly proven his worth to Borussia Dortmund over the last two seasons.”
Dortmund’s valuation of Guirassy revealed
Although the club insists that Guirassy is not on the market, reports indicate that only a significant financial package could prompt Dortmund to even consider negotiations. Local media suggest that the club would only entertain offers exceeding €40 million, a figure that underlines the striker’s standing as one of Europe’s elite goal-scorers.
Importantly, the release clause in the 30-year-old’s contract is reportedly not valid for Fenerbahce. This gives Dortmund a strong negotiating position, enabling them to dictate terms and demand a premium price should any club attempt to test their resolve during the transfer window.
Fenerbahce’s internal politics fuel pursuit of Guirassy
The speculation surrounding Guirassy’s potential move has been amplified by Fenerbahce’s internal presidential race. Candidate Aziz Yildirim recently declared his intention to sign the Dortmund forward if elected, with some Turkish reports even claiming that a verbal understanding had been reached.
Meanwhile, Yildirim’s rival Hakan Safi has also made strong remarks regarding the striker’s potential arrival. Speaking to supporters, Safi stated: “Dear Fenerbahce fans, we will soon make transfer announcements. You will witness the vision we have presented during the final week of the election. We are here to make Fenerbahce champions.”
Dortmund open only to exceptional offers
Safi further reiterated his determination to land Guirassy, adding: “Whoever wins the election will bring in Guirassy. God willing, I will sign him.” His comments underscore the pressure from Turkey’s top club to secure the forward’s signature.
While Dortmund’s main focus remains on keeping their key players, sporting director Ole Book recently admitted that the club must remain financially prudent. Speaking to the media, Book commented on Guirassy’s importance: “With his goals, he is extremely valuable. So, it is neither our plan nor our intention to let him go. However, as always, if extraordinary offers come in, we will consider them.”
