KUPANG – The Netherlands national football team, known as De Oranje, is set to make history at the 2026 FIFA World Cup under the guidance of head coach Ronald Koeman.
Since taking charge of De Oranje in 2023, Ronald Koeman has already delivered impressive results. This World Cup will serve as the ultimate test of his tactical evolution and ability to lead the team to new heights.
De Oranje are determined to end their long-standing reputation as the “runner-up specialists” and aim to capture their first-ever World Cup title under Koeman’s leadership in 2026.
With their signature attacking football philosophy, the Netherlands are expected to showcase positional flexibility, strong ball possession, tactical intelligence, and a high defensive line—all integral components of Koeman’s footballing vision.
According to Efraim Bria Seran, S.Fil, MM, the Secretary-General of the Malaka Regency Football Association in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and a passionate football enthusiast, the Dutch team is a serious contender. He believes their attacking philosophy gives them a tactical advantage over any opponent.
Efraim added that under Ronald Koeman’s total football approach, every opponent will struggle to keep up with the intensity and precision of De Oranje’s play.
He also emphasized that the team’s defensive leader, Virgil van Dijk, with his wealth of experience at Liverpool, will be crucial in organizing the back line and maintaining composure in high-pressure situations. The former sub-district head of West Malaka noted that in Group F of the World Cup, the Netherlands—favored as one of Europe’s top teams—should be capable of overcoming their group rivals: Japan, a powerhouse from Asia; Sweden; and Tunisia, representing Africa.
After a strong showing in the European qualifiers, many believe Koeman’s side will easily advance from the group stage. Koeman’s tactical brilliance has ushered in a new era for Dutch football, instilling optimism that the team can progress smoothly all the way to the final.
Koeman is well-known for his willingness to move away from the traditional 4-3-3 Total Football formation, adopting a more flexible and pragmatic approach that adapts to the strengths and weaknesses of each opponent.
He has blended youthful energy with experienced leadership. Young talents such as Micky van de Ven and AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders bring fresh dynamism to the squad, complementing the seasoned core led by captain Virgil van Dijk, midfielder Frenkie de Jong, and forward Memphis Depay, who has recently recovered from a hamstring injury.
The Netherlands have officially announced their 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which features a strong presence of players from the Premier League.
The Dutch team finds itself in Group F alongside Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia. Ronald Koeman’s men will begin their campaign against their toughest opponent in the group, Japan, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on 14 June.
