EC Notification For Rajya Sabha Elections 2026: The Election Commission has issued notification for elections on 27 Rajya Sabha and 17 Legislative Council seats. The process of filing nominations has started today i.e. June 1, at 11:00 am. The last date for filing nominations is 3:00 pm on June 8.
According to the notification issued by the Election Commission of India, there will be biennial elections for 24 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states and three by-elections in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha. The Election Commission has also issued notification for the elections to the State Legislative Councils in Bihar and Karnataka.
Candidates will be able to withdraw their names till June 11
According to the Election Commission, the process of filing nominations for the candidates has started from 11 am on Monday. The last date for filing nominations is June 8 at 3 pm. Whereas scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on June 9 and candidates will be able to withdraw their names till June 11.
Biennial elections will be held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats
The Election Commission said that biennial elections will be held for 24 Rajya Sabha seats of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka. Apart from this, by-elections will also be held for Rajya Sabha seats in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Odisha.
Where will council elections be held?
The Election Commission has also announced biennial elections for state legislative councils in Bihar and Karnataka. Nine members will be elected from Bihar, while seven members will be elected from Karnataka. By-election will be held for one additional seat of Legislative Council in Bihar.
Voting will take place on June 18
The Election Commission said that voting will take place on June 18 between 8 am and 4 pm. Counting of votes will start at 5 pm on the same day. To ensure fair and peaceful voting, the Election Commission has issued a notification and appointed Returning Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers (for both biennial and by-elections). Why will there be biennial elections?
Let us inform that the tenure of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Eranna Kadadi and Narayana Korgappa, Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge and Janata Dal’s HD Deve Gowda as Rajya Sabha members in Karnataka is going to end on June 25.
The tenure of 7 Legislative Council members elected by the MLAs will end on June 30. In which Congress’s Govind Raju, Naseer Ahmed, Tippanappa and BK Hariprasad and BJP’s N Nagaraju, Pratap Simha Nayak. And the names of Sunil Vallyapur are included.
