The whole Middle East is hot in the heat of war. Strait of Hormuz blocked. In this situation, one after another cargo ships are crossing this important waterway with the help of the US Army in the dark of night. Several media reports have claimed so. The question is, are the Indian flag bearers also taking American help in Hormuz?
According to several media reports, at least 70 cargo ships have passed through Hormuz in the past three weeks, avoiding Iranian attention. All with the help of America. According to the sources, the US military helped these ships in special maneuvers to enter Hormuz from the Persian Gulf and from Hormuz to the Persian Gulf. But how is this ‘game’ of ‘fooling’ Iran in a war-torn system? According to sources, most of the merchantmen kept their transponders off during the Hormuz Pass. A ‘transponder’ is an electronic device, which automatically receives signals and sends an instantaneous signal in response. As the ‘transponder’ was switched off, the Iranian military could not get any information about the ships.
But these 70 ships were from which country? Where did they go from? America has not said anything about that. According to experts, several Indian flag ships have also crossed Hormuz in the last three weeks. So did they also resort to US troops? There is no specific information on that yet. New Delhi did not open its mouth either. But a few days ago, the Narendra Modi government had ‘leaked’ the ‘secret diplomacy’ in the free passage of the Indian flagged ship in Hormuz.
Opeshkumar Sharma, director of shipping under the Ministry of Shipping and Ports, said that regular communication is being maintained with Tehran at the diplomatic level regarding the issue of Indian shipping in Hormuz. He said, “India is coordinating with Iran. But I will not comment on how the whole issue is being managed, how priorities are being set. I just want to say that our work is to coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs. This is where we are limited.”
Incidentally, although India does not directly import much oil from Iran, India has to buy more than 85 percent of its oil from abroad. About 50 percent of these imports come through the Strait of Hormuz. About 25 to 27 lakh barrels of oil come from countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait. Not only that, about 60 percent of Liquefied Natural Gas (CNG) demand is also imported through this route. As a result, Hormuz is known as an important waterway in the world.
U.S. officials say it’s hard enough to “fool” Tehran into sending one ship after another to Hormuz. Iran’s military will start shelling the ships when they are detected. But still, the US army is playing a special strategy in this important waterway. The vessels concerned are believed to be using a route near Oman.
