The Georgia national football team is set to face Romania in an international friendly at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium tonight.
The kick-off for the Georgia vs Romania match is scheduled for 00:00 WIB on Wednesday (3 May 2026) early morning.
Neither team will feature in next month’s global tournament, but both sides will be eager to claim bragging rights and build momentum ahead of the 2026–27 UEFA Nations League campaign, which begins in September.
Grouped with Spain, Turkey, and Bulgaria in the World Cup qualifiers, Georgia has consistently faced tough opposition in their bid for a top-two finish. Their campaign, however, has fallen short of expectations, with defeats in all but one of their six matches in Group E.
Two goals from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earned Georgia a 2-2 draw against Israel in the previous international break, before Georges Mikautadze struck twice more to secure a 2-0 victory for The Crusaders against Lithuania a few days later.
However, both players are expected to miss Tuesday’s match — one having just lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy with Paris Saint-Germain over the weekend, and the other sidelined due to an injury sustained in Villarreal’s final game of the season.
Romania, meanwhile, finished third in their World Cup qualifying group with four wins from eight matches but secured a playoff spot thanks to their performance in the 2024–25 Nations League.
However, the Tricolorii were eliminated in the first round after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Turkey in Istanbul.
Still reeling from their qualifying disappointment, Romania then suffered a 2-0 friendly loss to Slovakia a few days later.
National legend Gheorghe Hagi has returned to take charge of the team, 25 years after his first managerial spell, and will be keen to make an immediate impact in his second tenure as head coach this week.

Romania hold the upper hand in this fixture, having won six of the previous eight meetings compared to just one victory for Georgia.
The two sides last met five years ago in a friendly, which the hosts won 2-1.
Georgia are currently ranked 72nd in the latest FIFA World Rankings, while Romania sit at 56th.
Romania have managed only one clean sheet in their last eight matches.
