The ongoing war between Iran and America has created panic in the entire world. The direct impact of this great war is now being seen on the gas supply in India. To stop the increasing use of LPG and misuse of subsidy, the Central Government has taken a very big and decisive decision. This step of the government can be a big blow to those people who are enjoying multiple gas connections simultaneously.

Government’s surgical strike on dual gas connections

The scope of piped natural gas (PNG) connections is being continuously expanded across the country, but despite this there is no reduction in the use of LPG cylinders. In view of this situation, the government has now decided to completely eliminate dual gas connections. According to the new rules, from June 1, 2026, a strict deadline of 30 days has been set for those consumers who have PNG connection in their homes. If consumers do not surrender their LPG cylinders within this stipulated time limit, their connection will be canceled forever.

Know what are the new rules of gas connection

The government has made it clear that a family consisting of husband, wife, unmarried or married children and elderly parents, if they all share the same kitchen, will be allotted only one LPG cylinder connection in their name. Having more than one connection in the same house and same kitchen will now be considered completely illegal.

If rules are violated, supply will be blocked

If a customer is found to have more than one gas connection during investigation, his gas supply will be stopped with immediate effect. This supply will be legally restored only if the consumer surrenders all the additional gas connections held by him to the department in time. Therefore, it would be wise to take timely action to avoid any major problem.

Customers will get special facility of DBC

The government has also given a relief to the consumers in this rule. If a consumer comes forward to voluntarily surrender his excess gas connection, he can get his only remaining connection upgraded to Double Bottle Connection (DBC) i.e. a connection with two cylinders. This will benefit the consumers that in case one cylinder runs out, they will immediately have another backup cylinder.

Government’s emphasis on PNG connection increased amid war

Let us tell you that due to the war between America and Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the shortage of LPG in India has become very severe. To deal with this shortage, the government has laid full emphasis on increasing PNG connections in homes and its figure is also increasing rapidly. If statistics are to be believed, till the month of March alone, 6.5 lakh new PNG connections have been given in the country.

Even after this, the demand for LPG cylinders is not decreasing, which makes it clear that many families are still holding on to their old LPG connections even after switching to PNG. The government had already made it clear that if you have both PNG and LPG connections then you will have to surrender the LPG, but after people did not surrender it, now the government has adopted this strict stance.
