Several top Bundesliga clubs pursuing VfB Stuttgart’s young sensation have been left frustrated, as Noah Darvich is reportedly on the verge of a surprising loan move.
The highly rated midfielder is set to depart VfB Stuttgart temporarily, with plans in place for a loan spell within Germany’s top division.
According to reports from Kicker, Darvich is expected to join newly promoted SV Elversberg on loan, leaving a number of high-profile clubs disappointed in their pursuit.
Clubs such as Werder Bremen, his former youth side SC Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg, and Hertha BSC were all believed to be interested in signing the 19-year-old, who has yet to make his competitive debut for Stuttgart’s first team in the Bundesliga.
Elversberg’s current standing in the Bundesliga makes them a more appealing option than recently relegated Wolfsburg and Hertha, while their lower-pressure environment also provides a better stage for development compared to Werder and Freiburg. As Kicker notes, the Saarland-based side, who narrowly missed promotion in 2025 but sensationally achieved it a year later, offers Darvich the chance to grow “in a calm environment.”
Noah Darvich at VfB Stuttgart: Strong Development Without Top-Flight Minutes
Last season, Darvich impressed across the 3. Liga with VfB’s reserve side, delivering consistent performances that caught the eye of several Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs. The 2023 U17 World Cup and European Championship winner with Germany’s youth team, capable of playing as an attacking midfielder in both central and wide roles, recorded ten goals and six assists. He can also feature effectively as a number 8.
Despite his steady progress and praise from head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, Darvich has yet to make his senior debut. He was named in the Bundesliga squad just once, on matchday two at the end of August 2025.
“Noah is ready; he has made excellent progress recently,” Hoeneß told Bild in February, speaking about the young midfielder. After Stuttgart signed him last summer, the plan was for him to “make an impact” with the third-division team. “He’s now starting to do just that and showing he’s ready. I’m very pleased with his development. He has great potential and is on the right track to take on bigger roles,” Hoeneß added.
VfB Stuttgart are planning for Darvich’s long-term future, with his contract running until 2029. A loan move to Elversberg now seems imminent. The Germany Under-21 international is aware that the Saarland club has recently built a reputation as an ideal launching pad for young players seeking top-flight opportunities.
Examples of such success include Fisnik Asllani, Paul Wanner, and Nick Woltemade. Another promising name, David Mokwa, could soon join that list. The 22-year-old striker moved to Elversberg in the winter as a replacement for Younes Ebnoutalib, who had been signed from the Regionalliga and later sold to Eintracht Frankfurt. Having been sidelined from TSG Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga squad, Mokwa seized his chance at Elversberg, scoring six goals in the second half of the 2. Bundesliga season—including a brace in the 3–0 win over Preußen Münster that sealed promotion.
Noah Darvich’s Barcelona Experience
Darvich has already experienced football at a top European club, having spent two years with FC Barcelona. The midfielder, who captained Germany’s U17 team to both the World Cup and European Championship titles, added another chapter to his young career by joining the Catalan giants from SC Freiburg in the summer of 2023, aged just 16.
He had hoped to use Barcelona’s reserve team as a platform to break into the senior side but eventually returned to Germany after two years. “Barcelona was an incredible experience—like something out of a movie. I got to train and play alongside my childhood heroes,” Darvich said following his move to VfB Stuttgart. He frequently trained with the first team, sharing the pitch with stars like Pedri and Raphinha, and even featured in some friendlies. However, most of his competitive football came with Barcelona B in Spain’s third tier, where he later lost his starting spot.
Last summer, Stuttgart signed Darvich from Barcelona for a transfer fee of one million euros. Sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth stated at the time: “Given his age, we see enormous potential in Noah’s development and are confident that he will have a highly successful career in a VfB shirt.” Following a planned loan spell with Elversberg, Darvich is expected to return and push for a breakthrough in the 2027/28 season.
