Playback singer Suman Kalyanpur dies at the age of 89, sang thousands of songs in Marathi, Hindi, Gujarati and Bengali

Veteran playback singer Suman Kalyanpur has passed away today at the age of 89. He breathed his last at his home in Mumbai. Singer Suman, who spread the magic of her voice, was known by the name Suman Hemdi before marriage. But after marriage, she changed her name to Suman Kalyanpur and gave voice to her songs.

Was born in undivided India

Let us tell you that Suman Kalyanpur was born on 28 January 1937 in Bhawanipur of undivided India (now Bangladesh). He wrote to the great poet G. Made his debut in Marathi music with D. Madgulkar’s song (Gadima). After this, he has given his voice to many memorable Marathi songs one after the other like ‘Nimbonicha Jadamage’, ‘Are Sansar Sansar’, ‘Ketkicha Bani Tithe Nachala Mor’ and ‘Rimjhim Jharti Shravandhara’. These songs are still quite popular in Maharashtra.

Has been honored with Padma Bhushan

Not only in Marathi, Suman Kalyanpur has also lent his voice to thousands of songs in Hindi, Gujarati and Bengali. In view of his contribution in the field of music, the Government of India honored him with ‘Padma Bhushan’, one of the country’s highest civilian awards, in 2023.
