Tehran: Tensions between the US and Iran escalated sharply as the US conducted airstrikes against Iranian radar and drone facilities, prompting swift retaliation from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The US Central Command said its strikes targeted Iranian weaponry in Goruk and on Qeshm Islandaimed at neutralizing an MQ-1 drone and other threats to maritime vessels. According to Washington, the actions were defensive.
In response, the IRGC claimed its Aerospace Force launched missiles and drones attacks on a US airbase, which Tehran said had been involved in the strike on a telecom tower on Sirik Island in Hormuz province. Iran did not disclose the exact location of the targeted base.
The escalation caused heightened alert across the region. In Kuwait, air defense systems were activated and sirens sounded as authorities monitored potential missile and drone threats.
This exchange marks one of the most direct confrontations between US and Iranian forces in recent months, further intensifying regional tensions.
