World Cup 2026 Fever Yet to Hit Palembang, Jersey Shops Rely on Pre-Orders

SRIPOKU.COM, PALEMBANG – With only 10 days left before the 2026 World Cup kicks off, the excitement surrounding the world’s biggest football tournament remains subdued in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The lack of enthusiasm among residents has directly affected local sports apparel businesses, which have yet to experience a surge in sales of national team jerseys for the upcoming tournament.

One such shop, Yellow Shop Sport located on Jalan Gersik, confirmed that market demand for World Cup jerseys is still very low.

Unstable economic conditions and people’s cautious spending habits are believed to be the main reasons why World Cup fever has not yet caught on in the city.

Despite the lack of demand, Dedi, the owner of Yellow Shop Sport, stated that his store remains ready to take orders for 2026 World Cup national team jerseys for football fans who are interested.

“Although we mostly sell regular jerseys for foreign football clubs and futsal shirts, we can also provide 2026 World Cup national team jerseys here,” said Dedi on Saturday (1 June 2026).

Dedi explained that the jerseys will be supplied from Jakarta, carrying Great Original (Great Ori) quality, and priced between Rp100,000 and Rp130,000 per piece.

This pre-order system is intentionally applied to avoid potential losses, considering that World Cup jerseys are seasonal items and hard to sell once the tournament ends.

As of now, the stock of national team jerseys available from distributors in Jakarta remains limited, with only England and France jerseys still in supply.

“As for other teams like Spain, Portugal, and others, they’re no longer available—possibly sold out in Jakarta,” Dedi added.

For daily operations, the store continues to rely on the sale of popular European club jerseys such as Manchester United.

For reference, the prestigious 2026 World Cup is scheduled to begin on 11 June, hosted across three countries—United States, Canada, and Mexico—with participation from 48 national teams.
