Ahmedabad. Gujarat Titans team narrowly escaped becoming a victim of a major accident after losing to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final of IPL 2026. While returning to the hotel from Narendra Modi Stadium, the team bus suddenly had a short circuit, due to which smoke spread in the vehicle and a fire broke out. However, the players and support staff were evacuated safely in time, due to which a major accident was averted.
There was chaos while returning to the hotel-
The incident occurred on Sunday night when Gujarat Titans players and support staff were returning to the hotel after the final match. On the way, due to a fault in the electrical system of the bus, a short circuit occurred and soon smoke started filling inside the bus.
Considering the seriousness of the situation, all the players and staff were immediately evacuated from the bus. After the incident, the team members remained stranded on the road for about an hour, after which an alternative vehicle was arranged and they were safely taken to the hotel.
A major accident was averted in time-
In the preliminary investigation, the cause of the fire is said to be short circuit. Officials have started investigating the incident. It is a matter of relief that no player, coach or support staff was injured in the accident.
This incident happened at a time when Gujarat Titans were already disappointed with their defeat in the final. The team had to face defeat by five wickets at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the title match.
The team was struggling with continuous travel-
Gujarat Titans also had a very busy schedule before the finals. The team had made a long journey to play the Qualifier-2 match against Rajasthan Royals on 29 May. After this, the schedule of returning to Ahmedabad was also affected due to bad weather, due to which the players could not get adequate rest.
There was discussion about the constant travel and busy schedule, but the team management refused to accept it as the reason for the defeat.
Vikram Solanki said – will not make excuses for defeat
After the final, Gujarat Titans Cricket Director Vikram Solanki said that it would not be fair to link the team’s defeat to fatigue or travel.
He said, “We do not want to reduce the importance of RCB’s win by saying that we played more matches in less time or we were tired. That is not our thinking.”
Solanki admitted that the score of 155 runs was not challenging, but the players fought till the end. He said that the team will review its performance, but also have to accept that the opposition played better cricket.
News of relief amidst despair-
This night proved to be difficult for Gujarat Titans in many ways. First the team missed out on winning the title and then the incident of fire in the bus during the return journey increased the concern. However, the biggest relief was that all the players and support staff were completely safe and there was no loss of any kind.
