Just when the country was starting the new month, the oil marketing companies have given a new dose of inflation to the general public and businessmen. Gas companies have made them costlier by revising the prices of 19 kg commercial gas cylinders and 5 kg small free trade LPG (FTL) cylinders.
The companies argue that this decision had to be taken in view of the fluctuations in the prices of crude oil and LPG in the international market. The only matter of relief is that there has been no change in the prices of 14.2 kg domestic gas cylinder used in homes.
How much did the prices increase in Delhi and Kolkata?
According to the government notification, the new rates of commercial cylinders have come into effect across the country from today, June 1, 2026. In the capital Delhi, there has been a direct increase of Rs 42 on 19 kg commercial cylinder, whereas in Kolkata this increase has been even higher.

There will be a direct impact on the general public and small businessmen
Finance and market experts believe that the direct and biggest impact of this increase in commercial gas prices will be on hotels, restaurants, dhabas, confectionaries, catering and other business establishments. Since big cylinders are mainly used at these places, their cost will increase.
Traders will not bear this additional financial burden from their own pockets, due to which the cost of eating out, tea-snacks and catering at weddings or parties may become more expensive in the coming days. Ultimately its entire burden is going to be transferred to the pockets of the general public.
Why are prices continuously increasing? (The Global Impact)
Due to the Iran war and geopolitical tensions in West Asia that have been going on for the last four months, the global supply chain of oil and gas across the world including India has been badly affected. India imports a large part of its LPG needs. Due to supply disruptions and rising costs at the international level, commercial gas prices are continuously fluctuating in the Indian market. In many areas, people have to wait longer than normal even to get domestic cylinders.
