Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the title for the second consecutive time by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) by 5 wickets in the final of IPL 2026 played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 31. Chasing the target of 156 runs, RCB won in just 18 overs. With this victory, Bengaluru once again proved that it is one of the strongest T20 teams of the current era.
RCB bowlers laid the foundation of victory
At the beginning of the match, RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and decided to bowl first and his bowlers proved this decision completely correct. Gujarat Titans’ batting seemed to be struggling from the very beginning and the team kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Rasikh Salam Dar was the most successful bowler of RCB. He took 3 wickets for just 27 runs in his 4 over spell.
Apart from them, Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Krunal Pandya also did not give Gujarat a chance to play freely by taking wickets at important moments.
Washington Sundar scored the most runs for GT. He played an unbeaten inning of 50 runs in 37 balls, due to which the team could reach 155 runs at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer gave a fast start
Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer gave a great start to RCB while chasing the target of 156 runs. Both the batsmen took full advantage of the powerplay and put pressure on the Gujarat bowlers.
Venkatesh Iyer played a quick inning of 32 runs in just 16 balls, but while trying to play big shots, he became the victim of Mohammed Siraj. After this, Devdutt Padikkal was also out by Kagiso Rabada in the last over of the powerplay.
Rashid Khan increased the excitement, but Kohli remained firm
After the powerplay, Gujarat Titans tried to make a comeback in the match. Rashid Khan gave two big blows to RCB by dismissing Rajat Patidar and Krunal Pandya in his very first over.
However, at one end, Virat Kohli appeared to be in complete control. He batted according to the conditions and kept sending bad balls to the boundary. Kohli completed his half-century in just 25 balls and kept the team on the path to victory.
Tim David ended Gujarat’s hopes
Tim David also made useful contributions in the middle order. He made a partnership of 41 runs with Kohli for the fifth wicket, which almost ended Gujarat’s hopes of a comeback.
After this the victory remained a mere formality. Kohli stayed till the end and it was he who played the winning shot and gave RCB a historic victory. Bengaluru achieved the target in 18 overs and won the IPL trophy for the second consecutive time.
Rajat Patidar achieved big achievement under captaincy
With this victory, Rajat Patidar also achieved a big achievement. He became only the third captain in IPL history after MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to win two consecutive titles.
The celebration of RCB players and fans after the end of the match was worth seeing. At the same time, there was a flood of reactions and funny memes on social media after Bengaluru’s victory.
