Following the release of the JEE Advanced 2026 results, the next—and most crucial—stage of the admission process for engineering institutes is now set to begin. Counseling conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will commence on June 2nd, facilitating admissions into the country's prestigious IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other government-funded technical institutes. By participating in this process, students will be able to select their preferred colleges and academic programs.

The counseling process will be conducted entirely online, and seat allocation will be determined based on the candidate's rank, category, and stated preferences.

**Admissions Available for Over 63,000 Seats**
Through JoSAA Counseling 2026, admissions will be granted to 23 IITs, 32 NITs, 26 IIITs, and 47 GFTIs (Government Funded Technical Institutes). Collectively, these institutes across the country offer a total of over 63,000 seats. This includes 18,160 seats in IITs, 24,525 in NITs, 9,940 in IIITs, and 10,228 in GFTIs.

**Who Can Participate in the Counseling?**
Candidates who have secured a rank in JEE Advanced 2026 are eligible to participate in JoSAA counseling for admission into the IITs. However, to secure final admission, candidates must also fulfill the specific eligibility criteria related to their Class 12 examinations. For admission to IITs, NITs, and IIITs, candidates are required to have secured at least 75% marks in their Class 12 examinations or rank within the top 20th percentile of their respective school boards.

**Keep These Documents Ready in Advance**
Following the seat allocation, candidates will be required to complete an online reporting process. For this purpose, they must upload scanned copies of their Class 10 and 12 mark sheets, JEE Main/Advanced admit cards, category certificates, medical certificates, and a cancelled cheque. Candidates belonging to the EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) and OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer) categories must submit certificates issued on or after April 1, 2026.

**Basis for Seat Allocation**
Seat allocation will be determined based on the candidate's category, rank, the specific academic program and institute preferences selected by the candidate, and the availability of seats. The counseling process will involve several important stages, including registration, choice filling, mock seat allotment, final seat allotment, seat acceptance, and document verification.
