The excitement for the FIFA World Cup has started to spread across various regions, including the city of Pekanbaru, known as Kota Bertuah.
Football enthusiasts — from ordinary citizens and community groups to local clubs — are preparing a variety of events to celebrate the upcoming global tournament.
The much-anticipated football spectacle will take place across 16 cities in three host countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico — beginning on 11 June.
As the tournament draws closer, local discussions about potential events and celebrations have become increasingly lively.
One such initiative is from Pandawa Nusantara FC, a football club based in Pekanbaru, which plans to organize a mini soccer tournament featuring more than a dozen local teams.
Beyond strengthening camaraderie among football players, the mid-June event is expected to boost the competitive spirit among fans during the World Cup season.
“The event is not yet finalized; it’s still in the planning stage. However, the prospective participants are already showing great enthusiasm,” said Wahyudi, a member of Pandawa Nusantara FC, on Sunday (31 May 2026).
Wahyudi also expressed hope that the event would receive broader support from various parties to make the celebration even more festive.
In addition to the mini soccer tournament, Pandawa Nusantara FC also plans to hold public viewing sessions (known locally as ‘nobar’) for the World Cup matches.
“We’re still deciding which match to feature for the public screening, but one thing’s for sure — the ‘nobar’ is already a must-have event on our agenda,” he added.
According to Wahyudi, watching matches together has become a cherished tradition during every World Cup.
“It’s always more exciting when you watch together in a crowd, especially when everyone supports different teams — it makes the experience more emotional and lively,” he said.
