US Recalls: Once again a large-scale vehicle recall has been announced in the American automobile market. Vehicle manufacturer Stellantis and electric vehicle company Lucid have decided to recall thousands of vehicles due to safety- technical flaws. According to the American road safety agency NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), serious problems to airbag system and drive power have been reported in these vehicles.
4.19 lakh Jeep SUVs recalled
Stellantis has announced the recall of 4,19,035 Jeep SUVs in the US. According to the company, due to a software glitch in some vehicles, side airbags may not activate in time at the time of an accident. This problem may affect the safety of passengers.
The recalled models include the 2022-2026 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2023-2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The problem is to the software of the Occupant Restraint Controller Module (ORC). The company will provide free software updates to the affected vehicles.
Danger of power loss in Lucid Air EV
Electric vehicle maker Lucid has also recalled 2,039 Lucid Air EVs in the US. This recall will apply to 2024 and 2025 model year vehicles. According to NHTSA, the inverters on these vehicles are susceptible to malfunction, which may cause the vehicle’s drive power to suddenly stop while in motion. This problem can cause an accident on the highway or at high speed.
Solution will be through OTA update
Lucid will release over-the-air (OTA) software updates for affected vehicles. If genuine defect is found in the inverter during inspection, the company will replace it without any extra charges.
India will not be affected at this time
Both recalls are currently limited to the US market only. Jeep Grand Cherokee is definitely sold in India, but no official recall notice has been issued yet for the units sold in the Indian market.
