Coach John Herdman explained that Baker’s promotion to the senior team is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the development of talented players.

Explaining his decision, Herdman said:

The Canadian coach further elaborated on his philosophy regarding youth player development.

“What I’ve learned is that when you see a player with such potential, it’s important to fast-track their career,” Herdman explained.

The acceleration program refers to a development approach where promising young players are given early exposure to higher-level competition to speed up their growth.

By joining the senior squad, Baker will gain valuable experience training and playing alongside more seasoned players.

Interestingly, after completing his duties with the senior Indonesia team during the June 2026 FIFA Matchday, Baker is scheduled to travel to Medan, North Sumatra, to rejoin the Indonesia U19 national team for the 2026 AFF U19 Championship.
