The Indonesia national football team is set to compete in the FIFA Matchday fixtures scheduled for June 2026, which will take place at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK) in Jakarta.
Head coach John Herdman has officially announced the 23-player roster selected to represent Indonesia in two international friendlies against Oman and Mozambique.
The announcement of the Indonesia national team lineup has attracted significant attention from the country’s football community.
According to the schedule, Indonesia will face Oman on June 5, 2026, followed by a match against Mozambique on June 9, 2026.
These two fixtures hold great importance as part of Indonesia’s preparation for upcoming competitive tournaments, particularly those within the Asian region.
The team’s preparation is drawing interest as several previously absent players have been recalled, while some regulars have been omitted from the final list announced by John Herdman.

FIFA Matchday is an official period designated by FIFA during which all member countries play international matches. The results of these matches influence each nation’s FIFA ranking.
Therefore, the games against Oman and Mozambique carry significant value for Indonesia, not only to improve their FIFA ranking but also to strengthen team chemistry ahead of future tournaments.
Mathew Baker Becomes Surprise Inclusion in the Garuda Squad
One of the biggest surprises in the latest squad announcement is the inclusion of Mathew Baker.
The young player, who previously featured for Indonesia’s U17 national team, caught the coaching staff’s attention after impressive performances in various youth tournaments.
Mathew Baker recently represented Indonesia U17 at the 2026 AFC U17 Asian Cup held in Saudi Arabia, having also played at the 2025 FIFA U17 World Cup.
Coach John Herdman explained that Baker’s promotion to the senior team is part of a broader strategy to accelerate the development of talented players.
Explaining his decision, Herdman said:
“Yes, Mathew Baker is an exciting young prospect. It is part of our acceleration strategy.”
The Canadian coach further elaborated on his philosophy regarding youth player development.
“What I’ve learned is that when you see a player with such potential, it’s important to fast-track their career,” Herdman explained.
The acceleration program refers to a development approach where promising young players are given early exposure to higher-level competition to speed up their growth.
By joining the senior squad, Baker will gain valuable experience training and playing alongside more seasoned players.
Interestingly, after completing his duties with the senior Indonesia team during the June 2026 FIFA Matchday, Baker is scheduled to travel to Medan, North Sumatra, to rejoin the Indonesia U19 national team for the 2026 AFF U19 Championship.
Saddil Ramdani Returns to Strengthen Indonesia National Team
Aside from Mathew Baker, another name drawing attention is Saddil Ramdani.
The winger from Persib Bandung has been recalled after a long absence from the Garuda squad in official matches.
The 27-year-old last represented Indonesia in an official match against the Philippines during the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in November 2023, where he scored a goal.
Saddil’s return bolsters Indonesia’s attacking options, an area the coaching staff has been working to improve.
With his international experience and versatility to play on both flanks, Saddil is expected to add attacking depth in the matches against Oman and Mozambique.
Several Key Players Missing
Amid the inclusion of new and returning players, several notable names are absent from the squad.
One of the most significant absences is team captain Jay Idzes, who is sidelined due to injury.
In addition, Persib Bandung’s trio—Eliano Reijnders, Marc Klok, and Thom Haye—were not selected.
Thom Haye’s absence is related to a suspension imposed by FIFA.
Haye, along with Shayne Pattynama, is still serving a ban from FIFA following excessive protests and unsportsmanlike behavior toward match officials during the 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Iraq.
As a result, both players remain unavailable for Indonesia’s June 2026 FIFA Matchday fixtures.
Indonesia National Team Squad Composition
John Herdman has opted for a balanced mix of experienced players and emerging talents in his 23-player selection.
