Massive explosion in Myanmar: 45 people died due to blast in mining explosives, huge devastation near the Chinese border

Myanmar Building Explosion Namkham Township: At least 45 people died tragically when explosives detonated in a building in Namkham township in northeastern Myanmar. This massive explosion took place in Kangtup village around Sunday afternoon. According to local rescue workers and media reports, the incident not only reduced the building to rubble but also caused huge damage to the surrounding residential areas.

More than 45 people died

The death toll in this accident is continuously increasing. According to the information, till Sunday evening, 46 bodies had been recovered from the spot, including children. Some local media reports put the death toll between 50 and 55.

The intensity of the blast was so high that more than 74 people were seriously injured due to it, who were taken to the township hospital for immediate treatment. Rescue operations are still being carried out to rescue people buried under the debris, due to which the number of casualties is expected to increase.

How did the explosion happen?

Initial investigation has revealed that the blast took place at a place where mining operations and large quantities of explosive material ‘gelignite’ for breaking rocks. It was kept frozen. Gelignite is a substance used in stone quarries, but if it is not stored properly or becomes unstable over time, it increases the risk of spontaneous explosion.

Control of rebel group TNLA

The area where the blast occurred is currently under the control of Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA). This rebel group is waging an armed struggle against the Myanmar army and the ‘Three Brotherhood Alliance’ Is a member of. TNLA issued a statement on their Telegram channel admitting that their economic department had hoarded this gelignite for use in mining and stone quarries. At present the group is investigating how the explosion occurred in such a safe repository.

More than 100 houses destroyed near the Chinese border

The echo of the blast was heard across the border and it caused huge damage to more than 100 houses in the surrounding area. China’s government broadcaster CCTV also confirmed the incident and said that many residential houses have been completely damaged.
