Manchester United are on the verge of completing a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, which would mark Michael Carrick’s first signing as the club’s new manager. Meanwhile, Newcastle United may see one of their top targets, Matias Fernandez-Pardo, slip away as the Red Devils have now entered the race for his signature.
Carrick impressed with his management of the existing squad during the latter half of the previous campaign and now has the chance to build a team more suited to his vision. Strengthening the midfield has been identified as the main priority, and Ederson appears set to become the first arrival under his tenure.
Reports linking the Brazilian with a move to Old Trafford have gathered momentum in recent weeks, and it is now believed that personal terms have been agreed between the player and the club.
According to multiple reports, Manchester United are ‘closing in’ on finalising the transfer, with negotiations between the clubs progressing well.
Although various transfer fee estimates have circulated, sources suggest there is growing confidence at Old Trafford that a £35 million offer will be sufficient to secure Ederson’s services.
The 24-year-old is understood to be ready to join, with a five-year contract already prepared, pending agreement between Manchester United and Atalanta.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United’s interest in Lille winger Fernandez-Pardo — who could serve as a replacement for Anthony Gordon — has drawn attention from Carrick’s side as well, with reports indicating that United have entered the competition for his signature.
Lille are reportedly keen to retain the Belgian star, yet Fernandez-Pardo has emerged as one of the names on United’s shortlist.
The 21-year-old has attracted interest from several major European clubs, including Manchester City, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, and Como, all of whom are monitoring his situation closely.
Newcastle are expected to intensify their efforts to sign Fernandez-Pardo following Gordon’s departure. However, Manchester United could offer a more appealing proposition after finishing third in the Premier League last season. The £52 million-rated winger also has alternative suitors in Europe’s top leagues.
Meanwhile, speculation has recently surfaced linking Harry Maguire with a potential move to Inter Milan. Reports suggested that the defender, who signed a new deal with United in April, had been offered to the Serie A club, though it was not clear whether the approach came from Manchester United or his representatives.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has since downplayed those claims, indicating that a move is not expected to materialise.
He stated, “Just to clarify the reports coming from Italy. They have been mentioning Harry Maguire as a possible option for Italian clubs, but my understanding is that Maguire will be staying at Manchester United.”
