Three-storey building collapses near Saket Metro station, 4 killed, several injured

A coaching institute, cafe and office were operating in this building.

New Delhi. Police have registered an FIR in this regard after four people died in the collapse of a three-storey commercial building near Saket metro station in South Delhi. Many other people have been rescued and admitted to the hospital in this incident.

According to police sources, some of the dead and injured were preparing for the Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) examination. This building collapsed on Saturday evening in the Saeed-ul-Ajaib area on Western Road. A coaching institute, café and offices were operating in this building, while construction work was going on on the upper floor at the time of the incident.

South Delhi Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anant Mittal said, a total of four people have died in this incident. The rescue operation is going on. A case of culpable homicide has been registered and the entire matter is being thoroughly investigated.

According to the police, the building was completely reduced to debris and debris also fell on a nearby tin shed canteen frequented by students preparing for the medical entrance exam. All the injured have been admitted to the trauma center of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for treatment.

A joint team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Service (DFS), Delhi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Police and local volunteers carried out the rescue operation throughout the night. Rescue teams used heavy machinery, hydraulic cutters, victim tracking cameras and sniffer dogs to search for people trapped under the debris.

Officials said the rescue operation was ended after all the trapped people were located. The exact reasons for the building collapse are not yet known. Officials have started investigating the matter.
