Balen Shah, who was addressing the Parliament for the first time after almost two months of assuming the post of Prime Minister, claimed that not only India has occupied Nepal’s land, but there are some Indian areas also under the occupation of Nepal. In fact, Balen Shah, who took oath as the Prime Minister of Nepal on March 5, was presenting his views in front of the Nepali Parliament for the first time on Sunday (May 31). According to a report in ‘Kathmandu Post’, when a question was asked regarding the border dispute during the discussion in the House, the Prime Minister replied in a very frank manner. He said that only after becoming PM, he got concrete information that land encroachment has taken place on the border from both sides. Now the time has come that both India and Nepal should together investigate this entire matter seriously.

Opposition parties angry over Balen Shah’s statement

As soon as this statement of Prime Minister Balen Shah came out, the opposition has opened a front against him. MPs of Nepali Congress and Nepal Communist Party (UML) expressed strong objection to this. Opposition leaders say that as a Prime Minister, it is extremely irresponsible to make such a statement without any solid evidence. Creating ruckus in the Parliament, the opposition MPs have demanded that this statement of Balen Shah should be immediately removed from the record of the proceedings of the Parliament.

Opposition leaders in Parliament surrounded the Prime Minister and said that such statements on matters to international borders can harm the interests of the country. The MPs gave a direct challenge to Balen Shah and said that the Prime Minister should either present concrete evidence to the country in support of his claim, or immediately withdraw his statement and apologize.
