The final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was played on Sunday (31 May) between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Ahmedabad. The umpire made a big mistake in the beginning of this match. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, Sai Sudarshan gave a good start to GT by hitting two consecutive fours. However, he was declared cut-behind on the very next ball. Jacob Duffy, who brought the first over for RCB, bowled the fifth ball outside the leg stump, but Sudarshan missed it while trying to pull it.

The ball came out close to his bat. Although no voice was heard, the RCB players made a strong appeal and put umpire Nitin Menon under pressure. Menon raised his finger. Sudarshan immediately asked for review and he was saved. The ball was declared wide. It seemed that RCB had made this appeal only to save the wicket. After this, clear foul play was seen from RCB in the 10th over.

heated atmosphere in the final

GT team had lost 3 wickets for 59 runs in 9 overs and were struggling. Now the responsibility of Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar was to take the team to a respectable score. Sundar, who came to the crease a moment ago, tried to pull the ball thrown by Duffy but the contact between the ball and the bat was not good. Substitute fielder Jordan Cox, standing at deep fine leg, ran forward and completed the catch with both hands. However the third umpire was not satisfied. He checked whether the catch was completed cleanly or not.

Replays to the third umpire showed that the ball was definitely stuck in Cox’s fingers but some part of it had hit the ground. After this he gave not out to Sundar. Virat Kohli looked surprised after the decision came on the big screen. The entire RCB camp was unhappy. Meanwhile, RCB captain Rajat Patidar started arguing with the on-field umpire, due to which the atmosphere got heated. The umpire immediately explained to him that Cox’s fingers were not under the ball when the ball touched the ground but Patidar was not ready to accept it. He continued arguing for a long time. However, it was not going to make any difference. The game remained paused for some time. The umpire did not stick to the not out decision. Sundar and GT got a big relief.
