Liverpool have officially parted ways with their Premier League title-winning head coach Arne Slot.
Arne Slot has left Liverpool with immediate effect, just after the end of the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
Slot, who guided the Reds to a league title in his debut season, was unable to recreate the same success at Anfield and has ultimately lost his position as a result.
The club issued a formal statement confirming that the Dutch manager has stepped down from his role.
The statement read: “Liverpool FC can confirm that Arne Slot has departed his position as head coach with immediate effect, and the process of appointing a new manager is already underway.”
It further added: “From the very first moment we met Arne, it became clear that he is someone who not only accepts responsibility but takes it on wholeheartedly.”
The statement continued: “This was evident when he accepted the challenge of becoming our head coach, led us to the Premier League title, and continued to show immense character throughout the recently concluded season, despite facing significant difficulties.”
“At the same time, we collectively reached the conclusion that a change is necessary to ensure the club continues to progress. This decision has not been made lightly, far from it.”
“We would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Arne, who will always be remembered as the coach who delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title — a proud chapter in the club’s illustrious history.”
With Slot’s departure, Liverpool are now seeking a new head coach. Andoni Iraola, who recently left AFC Bournemouth after guiding them into European competition, is among the potential candidates.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are also searching for a new manager following Pep Guardiola’s departure after a decade in charge at the Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea and Manchester United will likewise begin the 2026/27 Premier League season with new managers, having recently appointed Xabi Alonso and Michael Carrick, respectively.
The timing of Slot’s exit has surprised many, as earlier reports suggested the Dutchman would be given another season to revive the team’s performance.
Liverpool concluded the 2025/26 season in fifth place, finishing 25 points behind champions Arsenal.
