Saket Building Collapse Death Toll: Five people have died tragically after a building collapsed near Saket Metro station in Delhi. Two engineers have been suspended with immediate effect in connection with the death of five people. Officials gave this information on Sunday. Through an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), South Zone, Assistant Engineer (Building), Sudesh Singh Chauhan and Junior Engineer (Building) have been suspended for lapses in inspection of the building located in Saidul Ajaib area on Saturday.
After this accident, many agencies launched a massive rescue operation. On Sunday, the death toll increased to five while many people have been rescued from the debris and admitted to the hospital. A total of 11 patients were brought to the AIIMS Trauma Center after the building collapse incident. Of these 11, three people were discharged after treatment, three patients are admitted. Three were brought dead, while two died during treatment.
Building debris fell on mess tin
The eyewitness of the accident told about the incident that as per our information one person is missing, who is currently being tracked. The young man told that an aunty who used to run a mess has died and she is a resident of Nepal. 15-16 students were sitting there eating food and the debris of the building fell on the mess tin and if there was a building in place of the tin, the accident would have been bigger. 4-5 people have died in this accident.
FIR registered against building owner
Delhi Police has registered a case of culpable homicide against the building owner and started investigation. Raids are being conducted to arrest the owner. This building on Western Road housed a coaching institute, café and office. At the time of the incident, construction work was going on on the top floor of the building.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Anant Mittal said that the building was reduced to debris and the debris fell on the adjacent canteen made of a tin shed, where students preparing for medical entrance examinations were eating food. Authorities have ordered an investigation and the exact cause of the incident is being ascertained.
