SINJAI — The Chairman of the Sinjai Regency Football Association (Askab PSSI Sinjai), South Sulawesi, Haris Achmad, has placed his bet on the Argentina national team to lift the 2026 FIFA World Cup trophy.
As the Head of the Sinjai Public Works and Spatial Planning Office (PUPR), Haris stated that Argentina remains one of the strongest contenders expected to shine in the world’s biggest football competition.
“The Argentina squad has a complete lineup across all positions,” said Haris Achmad in an interview on Sunday (June 31, 2026).
He further explained that Argentina’s extensive experience in major tournaments gives them an edge in handling the immense pressure that comes with such events.
“Argentina are still very strong,” he added.
According to Haris, Argentina’s success in recent years serves as a vital foundation heading into the 2026 World Cup.
“They have great squad depth and a champion’s mentality after triumphing in the previous World Cup,” he said.
Haris believes that the winning mentality of the Argentine players sets them apart from other competing teams.
“Argentina possess a champion’s spirit,” he emphasised.
He also highlighted the continued influence of Lionel Messi, who remains a key figure within the Argentine squad.
In his view, Messi’s experience and quality can still make a significant impact on the performance of the Albiceleste.
“I am confident Messi will perform well,” Haris stated.
Haris also assessed that Argentina’s current strength does not rely solely on one player.
“Argentina’s player regeneration process has been running effectively in recent years,” he explained.
Haris noted that several young players have demonstrated consistency and emerged as quality backups for the senior players.
“Argentina are no longer dependent only on Messi; they now have many talented young players ready to take on key roles,” he said.
Haris expressed hope that the 2026 World Cup would be highly competitive and deliver entertaining matches for football fans worldwide.
“I hope Argentina can maintain their best form and once again lift the World Cup trophy,” he concluded.
