Saturday was full of fear and chaos for the people in Shivpuri. An aggressive stray dog kept roaming in different areas and started attacking people it met on its way. Dozens of people were injured within a few hours. After the incident, there was a crowd of patients in the hospital and panic spread in the entire city.
The most traumatic incidents of dog attacks happened to children. A two and a half year old girl was playing outside her house in Laxmibai Colony area when a dog attacked her. The family and nearby people somehow saved the girl. At the same time, the skin of another child’s head was torn off, after which doctors had to apply 28 stitches. Several other people also suffered serious injuries and were immediately rushed to hospital.
Stray dog attack becomes a big concern of the city
This attack, which started on Saturday morning, remained a topic of discussion throughout the day. The dog kept roaming in many areas of the city and kept attacking people suddenly. Reports of attacks were reported from several areas like Hanuman Chauraha, Gandhi Park, Phal Mandi, Nawab Saheb Road, Custom Gate and Lakshmibai Colony. According to eyewitnesses, the dog was extremely aggressive and was targeting people without any provocation.
After the incident, an atmosphere of fear was created among the traders, passersby and local residents. Many people advised children to stay indoors. In some areas, people were seen coming out in groups. Experts say that the behavior of rabies infected or sick dogs can suddenly become aggressive, hence immediate action is very important in such cases. This is the reason why the pressure on the Municipal Corporation and the administration to take swift action increased.
Municipal Corporation’s action and increased vigilance in the hospital
After continuous attacks by the dog, many teams of the Municipal Corporation became active across the city to catch it. After hours of search, the dog was captured at around 7 pm. After this people heaved a sigh of relief. Municipal Corporation officials said that the campaign to monitor and catch stray dogs will be intensified to prevent such cases in future.
On the other hand, treatment of the injured continued in the district hospital. According to the hospital administration, from morning to evening, 65 people came for treatment after dog bites. Necessary treatment and anti-rabies vaccine were provided to all. Doctors have appealed to people not to rely on home remedies in case of dog bite and to reach the hospital immediately.
This incident once again draws attention to the increasing stray animal problem in cities. Local people say that if effective steps are not taken in time, such accidents may become more serious in future.
