New Delhi, 30 May 2026: BCCI took a big decision for security reasons The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has once again taken strict action against IPL players and support staff. This time smart sunglasses have been banned. BCCI’s anti-corruption unit has issued a notice to all the players and support staff, asking them to return their smart sunglasses and other glasses made with advanced technology by the match day. The Board had issued this advisory on 18th May.

According to BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ASCU), many companies are selling and promoting smart sunglasses and goggles to IPL players and other staff. These smart sunglasses seem simple, but they are equipped with advanced features, which has raised concerns among IPL and board officials.

ASCU says that this smart sunglasses can record and live stream video. They can send and receive messages, and also make audio and video calls using mobile data/WiFi.

New rules apply

According to the new rules, players and support staff will not be allowed to wear smart sunglasses inside the Players and Match Officials Area (PMOA) on the match day. They are also banned from the dressing room and dugout.

ASCU believes that such devices can share live match information, which could create security concerns during matches. Therefore, the Board has banned smart sunglasses along with other electronic devices. Players will have to hand over their smart sunglasses, their mobile phones and any other electronic devices to the security officer as soon as they reach the ground.

BCCIA has given a clear warning that strict action will be taken against anyone violating the rules. It is noteworthy that during IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder was seen using a mobile phone in the dugout, which led to widespread controversy.
