Samajwadi Party has started working rapidly on its strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. The party is busy in contacting many small and regional parties to further strengthen its PDA i.e. Backward, Dalit and Minority equation.

There is strong discussion in the politics of the state that Samajwadi Party is preparing to challenge BJP through a big alliance in the coming elections. According to sources, senior leaders of Samajwadi Party and officials of the organization are secretly interacting with the leaders of many small parties.

SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has already claimed to contest elections on 403 assembly seats. The party organization is active up to the booth level and is busy strengthening the election strategy.

SP busy in strengthening PDA formula

Samajwadi Party is considering its PDA formula as the biggest political weapon in the upcoming assembly elections. The party is preparing to enter the electoral fray by uniting the backward, Dalit and minority vote banks. Under this strategy, efforts to bring together small and regional parties have been intensified.

Political experts believe that caste equations play a big role in the election results in Uttar Pradesh. In such a situation, SP is trying to bring together every party which has influence in a particular caste or region.

Brainstorming on alliance with Congress also

Discussions are also intense regarding the alliance of Samajwadi Party and Congress. Congress is already believed to be in favor of alliance with SP, but there may be differences between the two parties regarding seat sharing. According to political sources, Congress may demand 100 to 120 seats in the upcoming assembly elections, whereas Samajwadi Party does not seem to be in favor of giving more than 50 seats to Congress.

Political analysts say that the Congress organization in Uttar Pradesh is in a very weak position. Except Rae Bareli, Amethi and some selected districts, the Congress organization is considered inactive in most parts of the state. In such a situation, SP is in no mood to give up more seats.

Congress had benefited in the Lok Sabha elections

The 2024 Lok Sabha elections were fought by Samajwadi Party and Congress in alliance. In this election, Samajwadi Party performed brilliantly and won 37 seats, while Congress got 6 seats. Whereas in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Congress was reduced to only one seat.

Political experts believe that Congress got the most benefit from the alliance with SP. However, the Samajwadi Party did not get any major political benefit from the alliance with the Congress. This is the reason why SP wants to give only limited seats to Congress in the 2027 assembly elections.

With which small parties is SP in contact?

According to political sources, Samajwadi Party is maintaining contacts with many small and district level parties including Apna Dal Kamerawadi, Chandrashekhar Azad’s Azad Samaj Party, Babu Singh Kushwaha’s Jan Adhikar Party. SP wants to create a comprehensive social equation by taking these parties together.

The party believes that forming an alliance with smaller parties will strengthen its electoral base in many areas. Especially the role of these parties can be important in consolidating the votes of backward, Dalit and extremely backward classes.

Special focus will be on caste equations

Caste equations are considered most important in the strategy of Samajwadi Party. The party wants to select candidates and allies in every region on the basis of dominant castes and social equations there. Political experts believe that by forming an alliance with small parties, SP wants to prevent the contest from becoming triangular on many seats. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav believes that if a strong social alliance is formed by taking small parties together, then a bigger political environment can be created against the BJP.

Jayant Chaudhary and Om Prakash Rajbhar have left each other.

Samajwadi Party had formed an alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal chief Jayant Chaudhary and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar in the 2022 assembly elections. RLD had contested 33 seats with SP alliance and won 8 seats. Om Prakash Rajbhar’s party contested 17 seats and won 6 seats.

But before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Jayant Chaudhary and Om Prakash Rajbhar left the Samajwadi Party and joined hands with the BJP. This caused a political blow to SP. Now the party is busy searching for new allies, so that it can field a strong alliance in the upcoming assembly elections.

Preparation to challenge BJP with the help of small parties

Political analysts believe that Samajwadi Party does not want to contest elections this time relying only on the traditional vote bank. The party is trying to form a broad social and political alliance by uniting small and regional parties. In the coming days, new equations can be seen in the politics of UP and the role of small parties can also be very important.
