Gervane Kastaneer, the former Persib Bandung player, featured for the Curacao national team as they suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Scotland on Saturday (30 May 2026).

Kastaneer, who is part of Curacao’s squad preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, joined his national side for a friendly match against Scotland as part of their warm-up fixtures.

The game took place at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland, on Saturday evening (30 May 2026).

Curacao actually took an early lead in the 17th minute through a goal by Tahith Chong.

However, things turned sour for Dick Advocaat’s side when striker Jurgen Locadia was shown a red card in the 38th minute, leaving Curacao with ten men.

Playing one man short, Curacao struggled to contain the hosts for the remainder of the match.

Scotland then turned the game around by netting four goals.

The Scottish goals came from Findlay Curtis (45'), Lawrence Shankland (59', 64'), and Ryan Christie (81').

Kastaneer did not start the match but came on as a substitute in the 46th minute, replacing defender Riechedly Bazoer.

This friendly was a crucial test for both teams as they build up towards the 2026 World Cup.

Scotland, coached by Steve Clarke, are among the confirmed participants for the tournament and will compete in Group C alongside Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti.

In the current FIFA World Ranking, Scotland sit at 45th in the world, ahead only of Haiti in their group. Morocco occupy the 8th spot, Brazil are ranked 6th, and Haiti are positioned 83rd.

Meanwhile, Curacao will compete in Group E along with Germany, Ivory Coast, and Ecuador.

Based on FIFA rankings, Germany are the strongest in the group, currently placed 10th. Curacao sit at 82nd, Ivory Coast are ranked 34th, and Ecuador are 23rd.

Given these rankings, Kastaneer and his Curacao teammates are considered the underdogs in their group.
