Anthony Gordon has completed his transfer from Newcastle United to Barcelona on Friday, leaving the Premier League club searching for a capable replacement for the England international. As reported by I Paper, Newcastle are now turning their attention towards potential options in Ligue 1.
According to the report, Lille OSC’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo has emerged as a key target for the Tyneside outfit. However, the young forward is also attracting significant interest from several top European clubs. Manchester United, Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona are all said to be monitoring his situation, as noted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Another name under consideration is Olympique Lyonnais’ Malick Fofana, who has endured a season hampered by injuries. Both Fofana and Fernandez-Pardo are on Newcastle’s radar and are also expected to compete for a place in Belgium’s starting lineup at the upcoming FIFA World Cup this summer.
Newcastle’s shortlist reportedly includes four players in total. Alongside Fernandez-Pardo and Fofana, Real Betis winger Ez Abde—who has a £51 million release clause—and Osasuna’s Victor Munoz are also being considered as potential signings.
