Manchester United Women are making the most of their journey in the World Sevens Football tournament with a commanding display in their second group stage clash.

The Red Devils began their campaign in style, edging out West Ham United 5-4 in a thrilling opener. Building on that momentum, United squared off against Aston Villa in their next group match.

Melvine Malard gave Marc Skinner’s team an ideal start, charging through the Villa defence before smashing a powerful strike into the back of the net. The French forward’s early goal set the tone for United’s dominance.

Julia Zigiotti almost doubled the advantage soon after, showcasing brilliant footwork to beat her marker, but her shot was tipped onto the underside of the crossbar and bounced out of play. Gabby George also came close, with her attempted lob narrowly missing the target.

Just before the break, United extended their lead when a teasing ball from Gabby George across the face of goal was turned in by Anna Sandberg, giving the side a well-deserved two-goal cushion at half-time.

United’s control of the game continued after the restart as they combined beautifully to net a superb third goal. Clever interchanges between Simi Awuju, Ellen Wangerheim and Ella Toone led to Millie Turner finishing from close range after her first effort was parried. The centre-back displayed excellent striker’s instincts to poke the rebound home.

On 26 minutes, Jess Park added further brilliance to the performance, darting down the flank and unleashing a stunning long-range effort to make it 4-0. The shot’s pace and movement left the Villa goalkeeper no chance, sealing a comprehensive win for United.

With two victories from two matches and nine goals scored, Manchester United Women head into their final group encounter full of confidence. Their next challenge comes against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday evening, where they will aim to maintain their perfect record.
