New Delhi. A major diplomatic development has come to light amid the ongoing tension between America (US) and Iran. The two countries have reportedly agreed on the framework of a preliminary peace deal, which aims to maintain the ceasefire and restart talks on Iran’s nuclear program. However, the green signal from US President Donald Trump is still awaited to finalize this 60-day Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
According to the report of Axios, the representatives involved in the talks from both the countries have agreed on the draft of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of 60 days. If this agreement is implemented, it will be considered the biggest diplomatic success after the conflict that has continued for the last three months.

Under the proposed agreement, Iran will commit not to develop nuclear weapons. During the next 60 days, both sides will discuss uranium enrichment and the future of Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile. The ban on movement of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz will be lifted. Iran will have to remove sea mines from this area within 30 days. In return, the US will gradually ease its naval blockade.
Apart from this, during the talks, issues like relief in sanctions imposed by America on Iran, release of frozen Iranian funds and delivery of humanitarian aid will also be discussed.
According to sources, by Tuesday most of the terms of the agreement had been agreed upon. Iranian representatives told the mediators that they had received approval from Tehran’s top leadership and were ready to proceed. However, President Donald Trump has not yet given his final signature to this proposal.
An American official said that Trump has told the mediators that he needs a few more days to consider this proposal. The White House has also not yet officially confirmed this agreement. Trump had recently expressed displeasure over the slow pace of talks in the cabinet meeting and said that America is not currently discussing relief in sanctions.
Attacks continue again amid ceasefire
Amidst this diplomatic stir, the tension on the ground has not reduced. On Thursday, the US Army attacked an Iranian drone operation near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, in response to which Iran fired a ballistic missile targeting the US military base in Kuwait, which was destroyed in the air by Kuwait.
Furthermore, enraged by the news of joint management of Hormuz by Oman and Iran, Trump sharply warned that this is international waters and if Oman does not behave normally, we will have to blow them up. There is huge anger in Tehran over this statement of Trump. This new spate of missile attacks and statements has increased the fear that if President Trump does not approve this peace format soon, this fragile ceasefire may break completely at any time.
Iran’s stance and contradictions
On the other hand, there are mixed signals from Iran regarding this agreement. While US officials claim that Iranian negotiators have acknowledged getting approval from Tehran’s top leadership, Iran’s official news agency ‘Tasnim’ has rejected these claims.
Tasneem quoted a close source as saying that the report of the western media that the agreement has been finalized is not true. Iran has not yet informed the arbitrator country (Pakistan) about any final draft and will make it public once the decision is taken.
On the other hand, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant clearly said that Iran will have to hand over its highly enriched uranium to America and ensure free transit in Hormuz. He said that Trump will not accept a bad deal.
