Bengaluru29 May. Senior Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar will take oath as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka on June 3 in Bengaluru. This development has come to light the next day after CM Siddaramaiah resigned from the post after a fierce power tussle that lasted for three years.

Shivkumar will be elected legislative party leader on Saturday

Before this, a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will be held here on Saturday evening, in which the formalities of electing Shivkumar as the leader of the legislature party will be completed. AICC general secretary KC Venugopal and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala will also attend the meeting. In this meeting, CLP will be the first to appreciate the services of Siddaramaiah. After this, Shivkumar will be formally elected as the new leader.

Government sources said that the swearing-in ceremony will be held in the ‘Glass House’ of Lok Bhawan. The event is expected to be attended by senior Congress leaders, cabinet colleagues, party workers and supporters from across Karnataka.

The appointment of 64-year-old Shivakumar comes a day after Siddaramaiah stepped down as chief minister following discussions with the Congress high command in Delhi. This transfer of power is being seen as a part of the leadership arrangement prepared by the party leadership.

Priyanka herself put forward DK’s claim

Actually, DK’s relations with Priyanka Gandhi are quite cordial. It is said that Priyanka Gandhi had strongly pushed Shivkumar’s claim forward. Shivakumar had actively participated in Priyanka Gandhi’s election campaign in Wayanad during the Lok Sabha elections held two years ago.

DK Shivakumar will take oath along with 5 others

According to government sources, along with Shivkumar, five other MLAs will also take oath as ministers. The party will take a decision on cabinet expansion later. This decision will be taken after extensive discussion while maintaining a balance between castes and regions as well as keeping in mind political loyalties.
