Pakistan’s government has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices, cutting both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) rates by Rs22 per litre. The decision, announced on Friday, aims to provide financial relief to citizens amid ongoing economic challenges.
Following the latest revision, the price of petrol has been reduced from Rs 403.78 per litre to Rs 381.78 per litre. Similarly, the price of high-speed diesel has been lowered from Rs 402.78 per litre to Rs 380.78 per litre.
The announcement was made through a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). According to the statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the government had pledged to pass on financial benefits to the public whenever fiscal space became available.
The prime minister stated that the promise had been fulfilled as committed and described the reduction in fuel prices as an Eid gift for the people. The announcement came on the third day of Eid celebrations, adding to the festive relief measures introduced by the government.
“Providing relief to the people is among my top priorities,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said while highlighting the government’s efforts to ease the financial burden on households and businesses.
The PMO further noted that this is not the first reduction in fuel prices, as the government had also lowered petrol and diesel rates last week as part of its broader public relief initiatives.
