In many parts of the country, heat has made the condition of people miserable. In many cities the temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius, due to which houses become as hot as a tandoor throughout the day. Most of the heat comes inside the house from the roof, because sunlight falls directly on the roof throughout the day.
In such a situation, it is not easy for everyone to run AC or cooler all the time. From reflective paint to laying bamboo mats and shade sheets, the heat of the roof can be reduced to a great extent. This makes the house feel cooler from inside and can also reduce electricity costs.
Use white or reflective paint
White or heat-reflective paint is considered very effective in keeping the roof cool during the summer season. The white color reflects back the strong rays of the sun, due to which the roof does not get too hot. Due to this, the temperature inside the house also remains normal to some extent and the rooms get less hot. Nowadays, “cool roof paint” is easily available in the market, which people are using extensively to keep the house cool in summers.
Bamboo Mat and Shade Sheet
The roof becomes the hottest in summer because direct sunlight falls on it throughout the day. In such a situation, applying bamboo mat, thick layer of jute or shade net is considered very beneficial. These things act as a safety layer between the roof and the strong rays of the sun, due to which the sunlight does not reach the roof surface directly. When there is less direct sunlight on the roof, its surface does not get too hot and the inside rooms also feel less heat. The special thing is that shade net and bamboo mats do not stop the wind, hence less heat accumulates on the roof. This is the reason that even in the scorching heat of the afternoon, the house feels cooler and more comfortable than before.
Homemade method of pouring water on the roof
Even today, during the hot summer days, many people adopt the simple indigenous method of pouring water on the roof to keep it cool. Due to sunlight throughout the day, the surface of the roof becomes very hot, due to which its heat gradually starts reaching the rooms of the house. In such a situation, by pouring water on the roof, its hot surface starts cooling down immediately and the accumulated heat reduces for some time. Pouring water gives more relief especially in the evening or late afternoon, because at that time the roof is filled with the heat of the day. Due to water, the temperature of the ceiling comes down slightly, due to which the atmosphere inside the house feels cooler and more comfortable than before. This is the reason why this old method is still used in many homes to get relief from the heat.
plant trees
If you have space on your rooftop, it can be beneficial to plant plants, pots or small greenery there. Plants help in reducing the direct heat of the sun. Due to greenery, the surrounding environment feels cooler and the air also remains better. Many people these days are taking advantage of the natural coolness by building rooftop gardens.
