Jerusalem. Describing India as a “very great power”, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said there is “tremendous love for Israel” in India despite “efforts in other parts of the world to question the legitimacy of the Jewish state”.
Netanyahu, speaking at an event in the Jordan Valley on Thursday, cited India as an important example of Israel’s growing international partnerships. He was discussing Israel’s international relations and efforts to expand diplomatic partnerships. Netanyahu made these comments at a time when the geopolitical situation in West Asia remains delicate.
Israel is facing security challenges on multiple fronts in West Asia and is seeking to strengthen ties with other partners beyond its traditional allies.
“We are expanding our alliances, and what you are talking about is taking these alliances to a broader scope,” Netanyahu said in a video released by the government press office. This larger scope is actually linked to our special relationship with a very great power called India.
Referring to international criticism of Israel, he said, “I would say that our legitimacy is questioned in many parts of the world but not in India. There is tremendous love for Israel in India, really tremendous. I think most of my followers are from India.
Netanyahu has repeatedly underlined his personal relations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the strength of India-Israel relations. In earlier comments he had described India as “extremely powerful” and noted growing cooperation in many areas.
