Rishabh Pant has stepped down as Lucknow Super Giants captain with immediate effect after his franchise’s failure in the IPL 2026. LSG confirmed the latest development on Friday, May 29, and said that they have accepted Pant’s request. LSG signed the southpaw for INR 27 crore in the 2025 mega auction.
However, he was a failure as skipper, batter and wicket-keeper in two seasons as the team failed to make it to the playoffs and finished 10th in the 19th season of the tournament. They won just 4 matches and lost 10. In 2025, they secured victories in six out of 14 contests, meaning 10 wins out of 28 games during his stint.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) wish to formally announce that Rishabh Pant has requested to be relieved of his captaincy duties with the franchise, and the franchisee has accepted his request with immediate effect,” read the statement from Lucknow.
He scored 269 and 312 runs across two seasons.
