E-Challan: The method of traffic monitoring is changing rapidly in big cities of India like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Now, not only the traffic police but also smart cameras equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) are keeping an eye on every activity on the roads. These cameras work 24 hours without any human intervention and automatically issue e-challan if traffic rules are broken.

How do AI cameras work?
These smart cameras are quite different from normal CCTV. Real time image processing and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology is used in these. With the help of infrared support, they can easily read the number plates of vehicles even at night.

Challan is issued immediately for mistakes like using mobile while driving, jumping red light, driving in wrong direction, parking vehicle in no-parking or crossing zebra crossing. Now heavy fines are being imposed even if the rear passenger is not wearing a seatbelt.
