
Jodhpur, 28 May. Preacher Asaram Bapu surrendered before the authorities in Jodhpur Central Jail on Thursday evening. A day before this, Asaram took this step after the Rajasthan High Court upheld his life imprisonment in the 2013 minor rape case and canceled his interim bail.

Hearing the news of Asaram Bapu’s arrival, a large number of supporters had gathered at Jodhpur airport. Asaram greeted his followers from inside his vehicle, blessed them and then left for his ashram in Pali village.
After spending some time at his ashram in Jodhpur, he went to AIIMS for medical examination and surrendered in the evening. The Jodhpur bench of the High Court on Wednesday rejected Asaram’s appeal and canceled the interim bail extended till July 7.
Asaram was in Haridwar
Asaram was in Haridwar, Uttarakhand at the time of the High Court’s decision. He was on bail since October. His lawyer had said he was studying the order and would take further action to challenge the high court decision in the Supreme Court. A division bench of Justice Arun Monga and Justice Yogendra Kumar Purohit, while delivering a detailed judgment in the sensational case, had upheld the life imprisonment awarded by the trial court.
