Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has changed its state presidents in many states simultaneously. Central government minister Harsh Malhotra has been made the state president of Delhi. Keval Singh Dhillon in Punjab and Dr. Archana Gupta in Haryana have been given the command of the state BJP. There was no change in all these states for a long time. In Punjab, Sunil Jakhar was holding the post of state president from 2023, in Delhi, Virendra Sachdeva was from March 2023 and in Haryana, Mohan Lal Baroli was holding the post of state president from July 2024.

These changes show that BJP has bet on a grassroots and its old leader in Delhi, an old leader from Congress in Punjab, a woman in Haryana and a younger leader in Tripura. Harsh Malhotra was the Mayor of East Delhi before becoming an MP and has been active in Delhi politics for a long time.

Who will replace whom?

Virendra Sachdeva has been looking after the work of State President of BJP in Delhi for a long time. Now Harsh Malhotra has been given this responsibility in his place. Similarly, in Punjab, Keval Singh Dillon has been appointed in place of Sunil Jakhar, in Haryana, Dr. Archana Gupta has been appointed in place of Mohan Lal Baroli and in Tripura, Abhishek Debroy has been appointed in place of Rajeev Bhattacharya. In the letters issued by BJP’s National General Secretary Arun Singh, it has been said that these appointments will come into effect with immediate effect.

Who is Kewal Singh Dhillon?

In Punjab, BJP has once again expressed confidence in the leader from Congress. Before this, Sunil Jakhar had also joined BJP from Congress and became the state president. Kewal Singh Dhillon, who hails from Barnala district, became MLA from Barnala on Congress ticket in 20207 and 2012. In 2017, Aam Aadmi Party’s Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer defeated him in the election. Congress did not give him ticket in 2022.

He joined BJP only in 2022. After Bhagwant Mann became the Chief Minister, when by-elections were held on Sangrur Lok Sabha seat, BJP made only Singh Dhillon the Lok Sabha candidate. Then he remained at fourth position and from here Simranjit Singh Mann won. In 2024, when Gurmeet Hayer became the Lok Sabha MP, by-elections were held on Barnala Assembly seat and then only Singh Dhillon contested on BJP ticket. However, then he was at third position and Kuldeep Singh Dhillon of Congress had won.

Who are Archana Gupta and Harsh Malhotra?

BJP has given a chance to a woman in Haryana. Dr. Archana Gupta, who comes from Panipat district of Haryana, has been made the president of the state BJP. State BJP General Secretary and District President Archana Gupta is basically a radiologist.

Harsh Malhotra, MP from East Delhi and Minister of State in the Central Government, won the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 2024. He had contested the elections in place of Gautam Gambhir and after winning, he became a minister in the central government for the first time. Before this, he had become the councilor from Welcome Colony of East Delhi in the year 2012 and was also the Mayor of East Delhi from 2015 to 2016.

Who is Abhishek Debroy?

BJP has also made changes in Tripura. Now, sitting MLA Abhishek Debroy has been made the state president in place of Rajeev Bhattacharya. First-time MLA Abhishek Debroy had won from Matarbari assembly seat in Gomti district in 2023 by defeating Congress’s Pranjit Roy.
