The most sensational and biggest news of this time is coming out from the politics of Karnataka, an important state of South India. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has resigned from his post. Amidst the long-running political tussle and speculations, Siddaramaiah himself went to Lok Bhavan (Raj Bhavan) and submitted his resignation letter.

This major leadership change has taken place in Karnataka following the instructions of the Congress high command. After Siddaramaiah stepped down from the post, it is now completely clear that the state’s Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar will be the next new Chief Minister of Karnataka. After this big change, the stir has intensified in the political circles of Karnataka.

Resignation submitted to the Secretary in the absence of the Governor

The incident of resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was also very interesting. Actually, Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot has currently gone to his hometown Nagda in Madhya Pradesh for personal reasons. In the absence of the Governor, Siddaramaiah went to Lok Bhavan and submitted his resignation to the Governor’s Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar. Confirming this, Special Secretary Prabhu Shankar said, “I have received Siddaramaiah’s resignation from the post of Chief Minister, but only the Honorable Governor will accept it officially after he returns from his hometown.” According to constitutional experts, submitting resignation to the Secretary of Raj Bhavan is also considered completely legal.

Siddaramaiah became emotional in the press conference after resignation

Siddaramaiah addressed a press conference soon after submitting his resignation. Respecting the decision of the high command very politely, he said, “I have completely followed the instructions of the Congress high command. I was asked to step down and I had promised the high command that I would resign on Thursday, which I have fulfilled today.” He further said that it will be accepted after the Governor returns, because according to the provisions of the Constitution, he will have to accept this resignation.

Expressed gratitude to Sonia, Rahul and Mallikarjun Kharge

At this historic and emotional juncture, Siddaramaiah openly thanked the top leadership of Congress. Recalling Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, he said, “Since joining the Congress party, I have received immense support and love from workers and leaders at every level. I would like to thank them wholeheartedly.” He further stressed that “the Constitution is the biggest religion for me” and that he would continue to serve the party and the public.

A secret meeting of the cabinet was called at the residence just before the resignation.

The script of this big political drama was written during the day on Thursday itself. Just before leaving for Raj Bhavan to tender his resignation, Siddaramaiah had held a special high-tea meeting for cabinet colleagues and ministers at his official chief ministerial residence. According to sources in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), during the same meeting, Siddaramaiah informed all his ministers about the decision of the high command and informed them of his final decision to step down from the post. Immediately after this he left directly for Lok Bhavan.

Amidst the news of DK Shivakumar taking charge as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka, now all eyes are on Raj Bhavan and the formation of the new cabinet.
