Michael Carrick’s genuine thoughts about Atalanta midfielder Ederson have now emerged, as the Brazilian’s proposed transfer to Manchester United moves closer to being finalised.
Ederson is expected to become the first signing under Michael Carrick’s management at Old Trafford. Strengthening the midfield is understood to be a top priority for United as they approach the upcoming summer transfer window.
Several midfielders are reportedly on United’s shortlist, with Ederson one of the main names under consideration. Given that the 24-year-old’s contract with Atalanta expires next summer, the Italian club are looking to sell him now rather than risk losing him on a free transfer. This summer, therefore, represents the best chance for Atalanta to secure a solid financial return from his departure.
Reports indicate that Ederson has told his representatives he is only interested in joining Manchester United. It is believed that personal terms between the player’s camp and United have already been agreed upon.
According to earlier coverage by The Peoples Person, the Red Devils are just one step away from finalising an agreement with Atalanta for the midfielder.
Further confirmation from The Mirror suggests the same, adding that Ederson is set to earn around £75,000 per week once he arrives at Old Trafford. The publication also shared insight into Carrick’s assessment of the Brazilian’s playing style and potential role within the squad.
The Mirror notes that “Michael Carrick’s promotion to the position of permanent manager accelerated the process after he carefully reviewed the advantages of making the move.”
“Carrick is reportedly impressed by Ederson’s versatility and does not view him as a direct replacement for Casemiro. He values Ederson’s ability to play both in a deeper defensive midfield role and in a more advanced position.”
However, the midfielder could face an immediate hurdle at Manchester United regarding his preferred squad number. The Mirror highlights that Ederson’s favourite number is 13 — a number he considers lucky because it corresponds with his wife’s birthday on 13 July. Unfortunately, that number is currently assigned to Patrick Dorgu, which could complicate his request.
When Ederson joined Atalanta from Salernitana in 2022, he specifically requested the number 13 shirt, further showing his attachment to it.
Manchester United are also monitoring several other midfield options this summer, including Mateus Fernandes, Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, and Sandro Tonali.
